On behalf of the NSJRU Executive Committee I would like to *thank all the players, parents and coaches for their support of Season 2024’s NSJRU Academy*.

We had an incredible turnout and were very fortunate to have *special guests* join us during the program – from *Andrew Cleverley (Talent Identification Manager at NSW Waratahs)* to *Nathan Grey (Head Coach of the U20 Wallabies and National Academy)* and *Zak Beer (Head Coach of Northern Suburbs Rugby Club)* – as well as current and former 1st grade players coaching our players over the weeks.

With the emphasis on skills and fitness over the 6 weeks, *we hope players have taken their game to the next level as they prepare for their club rugby and school rugby trials in the weeks ahead*.

*Three take-outs* from our guests that we want to stay front of mind for our players during the season are:
•       *Coachability* – listen to feedback from the coaches; take advice on board; and do your best to implement the learnings provided into your game through repetition and plenty of extra practice
•       *Speed* – do things fast: if you make a tackle, get to your feet fast; if you are tackled, get to your feet fast; find that extra effort when you are needed to get to a breakdown, make a cover tackle or in support play…speed, speed, speed.
•       *Nutrition* – stay hydrated; eat your fruit and vegetables each day; and for the older players, if they are taking protein, spread it out over the day vs having it all in one meal.

*A shout out to Mike Cross and his Try Time team* for the program they built over the 6 weeks and a special *thank you to Drummoyne Dirty Reds Junior Rugby Club and its volunteers* who hosted us each week at Taplin Park.

This week’s *latest Academy video* can be found on our Instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/reel/C4XBLDyPAcY/?igsh=ZGdqeGJhc3ZjcjFo

*Follow us* and stay up to date with the *latest Norths Juniors news and highlights*.

We hope the players enjoyed the program and improved their skills and fitness over the 6 weeks. If you have any *questions or feedback*, please don’t hesitate in reaching out to *Ben Richards (vp@nsjru.com.au)* as we strive to make our Academy program even better in 2025.

With the SJRU season about to kick-off, *we wish all our Norths Juniors’ players all the best for the season ahead* and we look forward to welcoming many of you to our *representative trials in April*.

Northern Suburbs Junior Rugby Union

It’s time to get the footy boots out because NSJRU’s 2024 Academy kicks off this Sunday at Taplin Park, Drummoyne.

We are inviting players who want to play reps rugby going forward; played reps rugby with Northern Suburbs Junior Rugby Union over the last few years; or players who simply love their rugby and aspire to improve their skills and fitness and take their game to the next level this season, to register for the Academy.

The Academy is a 6 week program that is open to all players, boys and girls, from age groups U10 through to U16 (2024) from the NSJRU village clubs (Drummoyne, Hunters Hill, Mosman and Norths Pirates). Players must be registered with their Clubs before they can register for the Academy – if a player isn’t registered with a village club then please make sure they are registered before turning up on Sunday afternoon.

The Northern Suburbs Junior Rugby Academy will again be managed by Mike Cross and his team at Try Time Rugby. Mike and his team have extensive coaching experience across all age groups, with Mike having been the head coach of the NSW U19 team that won the State Championships in 2022. The NSJRU Academy will also continue to work closely with the Norths Seniors Club to include coaching and other resources that will enhance the Academy program.

So get on down this Sunday, with the first two sessions at Taplin Park, Drummoyne.  Please ensure players are there at least 20 minutes before their start time so we can register them and make sure they are ready.  Start times below:

  • 3pm for the U10s through to U12s; and
  • 4:30pm for the U13s and above.

The Academy program will run for 6 weeks and the cost will be $125 per player. A program schedule will be sent to you once your registration has been completed.

Joining the Academy program does not guarantee rep selection for your child, however, we believe the program developed by Try Time for NSJRU will make all attendees stronger and fitter players for the season ahead which in turn will improve the skills of our players at our village clubs and in turn make our representative teams stronger and even more competitive at the NSW State Champs (both the XVs in June and the 7s in late Sept/early Oct).

Places are limited so please register asap using the link below and secure your son/daughter’s place in the NSJRU Academy. https://www.trybooking.com/COJXD

NB – Please ensure that your sons/daughters are registered with their Village Club before registering for the Academy. If they aren’t registered for their Club then they won’t be able to attend the Academy until their registration with their Club is confirmed, for insurance purposes.

The first 250 players registered will have access to the 2024 Academy training tee.

Players should wear boots and bring water bottles and mouthguards (and head gear if they wear it).
